The latest fabulousness from Janet Mavec is the Millefleurs, the Earring of 1,000 Flowers. Delicate lilac-type shapes are knit together into a circular burst of floriferous joy.
Just to get a little pedantic, the Millefleurs is a style of tapestry that had its heyday during the Renaissance—although the style dates back to the Medieval Ages. One thousand flowers were woven into the textile’s background. As to who counted the fleurs to verify that there were a mille, that’s been lost to the annals of history.
We have, however, revived the millefleurs to be worn on the ears of the new new Renaissance women. We contemplated 1,000 flowers per earring, but wisely envisioned it as an unwieldy fashion nightmare. Instead, we took poetic license for the name.
If one flower can lift the spirit, we bet 1,000ish will lift you well above the ground.
